Things To Keep In Mind As An Artist!

As an artist, you might forget to keep track of things or you might still have a lot to learn. Here are a few things we think are important to keep in mind:

YOU ARE FEARLESS:

You did what many fear to do, you put yourself and your art out there. Don’t give up, because you never know. You love this so much you said fuck it and went with what makes you happy.

YOU ARE SELF-CRITICAL

You are an artist and an artist is very self-critical of their work. Remember, one of the downsides to being an artist is that you may hate a piece of art you created, but others might love it. Be proud of all the things you’ve created. Even if you’ve moved on from them.

YOU ARE A BUSINESS

As an artist, you are a business. It is your responsibility to build your brand and reputation. It is also your job to do damage control and do it right. We understand sometimes life happens, depression hits, and many lessons are yet to be learned. But remember, when you are an artist you are a business, and how you run your business is up to you. So, build yourself in a way that helps you grow and helps you stay stable.

THE RIGHT REASONS

Never be an artist for the wrong reasons. Money and fame are benefits, not the reward.

BUSINESS VS BRAND

Building your business and yourself as an artist can go two ways. You build the business and do the job or you build a brand and a reputable business. What you decide is up to you and the outcome is up to you. A brand and reputation can heal, a business with no passion in it for the wrong reasons will always be just average.

EXPERIMENT

Experimentation is key. Diversify and find what you love. Create a new genre. Have fun and expand on your ideas.

FIND YOUR SOUND

Finding your sound is important. Don’t be like the rest. Do what feels natural and comes with ease. You can be great at your genre, but deep down you know something else feels better. Just find your sound and have fun with it.

PAY YOUR DUES

Pay your dues. Being a small artist is hard and comes with a lot of fees. Learning that nothing is free and you need to pay your dues is key. Marketing, features, loops, etc…

NETWORK

Networking is key. Everyone doesn’t have to be your friend and wants to work with you. Networking doesn’t mean free shit either, it just means finding and connecting with people that may teach you or lead you to better resources to help you grow.

BE RESPECTFUL

Lastly, show respect. Don’t disrespect and walk around hating without reason. Uplift each other.

What do you think of the list?
